Occupier spotlight: Lavender International
Lavender International NDT Consultancy Services Ltd joined the AMP Technology Centre community in 2010 and lease a range of workspaces including training classrooms used to teach highly specialised non-destructive testing (NDT) courses to engineering technicians. The non-invasive methods are typically applied within the engineering industry to assess for cracks to determine if a component is fit for service, without compromising the part and ensuring that critical infrastructure is maintained.
Lavender is a global brand for NDT training, examinations and Level 3 consultancy services to clients around the world. In 2015, the company became the first NDT training school in the UK to become 100% employee owned. This means that every single employee at Lavenders is a co-owner and is equally motivated to safeguard the future of the organisation. Since moving to AMP Technology Centre, the on-site team has doubled in size from three to eight employees.
This talented team work with clients across a wide range of sectors including oil and gas, nuclear, aerospace, power and defence, and are expertly located to do this from their base on the Advanced Manufacturing Park; one of four specialist clusters of business, research and testing facilities that make up the Innovation District.
They lead in the field in advanced Ultrasonic Testing programmes including Time of Flight Diffraction, Phased Array and High Temperature Hydrogen Attack detection courses.
Consultants also work directly with companies who need technical expertise and advice on audits, procedure writing and expert witness testimony reports.
Lavender International continues to expand its training facilities at the AMP Technology Centre and has recently revealed a new work experience laboratory specifically designed to replicate multiple industry sectors and represent real world inspections allowing engineering technicians to gain valuable work experience.
The workshop features an impressive pipework system, a pressure vessel and a range of ex-service corroded samples to provide students with interactive experience that is relevant to the area they work in. For example, to achieve scans, students will have to reach up high or lean at awkward angles, much like in the field.
Driving innovation is a core part of the mission at Lavender International, spurred on by their experienced and expert technical staff who have a passion for NDT, and to make the world a safer place through finding new ways to get inspectors qualified and ready for the changing industry that they face.
