Join us in South Yorkshire for this insightful roundtable discussion looking at how a possible exit from the EU will affect manufacturing sector growth. This roundtable discussion will then be followed by an optional factory tour of the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre AMRC.

A British EU referendum is on the cards, and with it brings uncertainty about the impact this will have on manufacturing. Attend this interactive event and hear about the effect of leaving the EU from both an industry and economist’s perspective. Craig McKay, Master Cutler, Company of Cutlers, and CEO, Evenort Ltd, and Jonathan Perraton, Senior Lecturer, Economics Department, The University of Sheffield, will share their experiences at this insightful event.

Take the opportunity to share your views and experiences during the roundtable discussion, as well as the chance to meet and network with other members of the Manufacturing Group. There will also be an optional factory tour of the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre AMRC.

SPEAKERS

Craig McKay, Master Cutler, Company of Cutlers and CEO Evenort Ltd:

Craig McKay became the 377th Master Cutler at Cutler’s Hall, followed by a service at Sheffield Cathedral. The city has a long-held reputation for metallurgy and steel-making, with the Cutlers’ Company founded in 1624. The Master Cutler now represents the city’s wider manufacturing and technology interests. At 45, Mr McKay is CEO of Sheffield engineering firm Evenort Ltd and one of the youngest ever Master Cutlers. He has succeeded David Grey MBE as Master Cutler, having been Senior Warden at the Cutlers’ Company for the past year.

Jonathan Perraton, Senior Lecturer, Economics Department, The University of Sheffield:

Jonathan graduated from the University of Cambridge in 1985 and obtained a PhD in Economics from the University of Nottingham in 1993. He was then an Economics Research Officer at the Open University on the Globalisation and the Advanced Industrial State project from 1993 to 1995. He was appointed as Baring Fellow in Political Economy at the University of Sheffield in 1995 and then as a Lecturer in Economics since 1999. He was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2006. He is convenor of the Post-Keynesian Economics Study Group, a member of the College of Reviewers for the Canada Research Chairs Program and a member of the Stirling Centre for Economic Methodology. Previously he was also Deputy Director of the Political Economy Research Centre at the University of Sheffield.
