AMP Technology Centre occupier, Dr. Erdem Ozturk, CEO and Founder of Productive Machines, gives his response to the recently released UK Industrial Strategy. Dr. Ozturk, said:
“In today’s rapidly evolving market, productivity is not just a goal; it’s a necessity for survival. At Productive Machines, we are committed to strengthening manufacturing capabilities through innovation, ensuring that the manufacturing industry remains competitive on a global scale. By harnessing advanced technologies, we can significantly enhance productivity and create sustainable growth for the future. It is great to see the Government’s commitment to advanced manufacturing in the new industrial strategy which aligns with our aims to advance the capabilities of manufacturers long term; to reduce their cost so that they can be more competitive and to increase their production capacity while reducing the waste for the good of the planet we live in.”
Productive Machines’ innovation story is deeply rooted in South Yorkshire’s advanced manufacturing ecosystem. Spinning out from the University of Sheffield’s Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) in 2021, their journey began over a decade earlier with Dr. Erdem Ozturk, CEO and Founder, forming a research team at the AMRC. For ten years, they pushed the boundaries of machining dynamics, developing digital twins and simulations to enhance productivity, monitor tool life, and eliminate “chatter” – harmful vibrations in metal milling processes.
This groundbreaking innovation blossomed into Productive Machines, with a mission to commercialise this technology, making sophisticated process optimisation accessible to every machining workshop. Their core offering, SenseNC Finesse software, utilises an AI-powered digital twin to simulate millions of machine settings. This allows manufacturers to precisely determine optimal feed rates and spindle speeds, preventing chatter across the entire toolpath and eliminating costly trial-and-error.
Their growth story in South Yorkshire is a testament to the region’s supportive environment for high-tech manufacturing. Productive Machines has already secured significant investment of more than £3 million, from partners including UKI2S, Mercia Equity Finance, and Fuel Ventures. This funding has fueled their expansion, enabling them to grow their team of exceptional staff.
Productive Machines has successfully deployed its software with over ten major manufacturers proving its global impact. By making their autonomous machine tool optimisation available as an easy-to-use Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution, integrated with popular CAM programs like Siemens NX and Mastercam, they are democratizing access to cutting-edge technology.
This South Yorkshire-born innovation is empowering manufacturers to reduce energy consumption by up to 25%, improve product quality, extend tool life, and significantly boost productivity, embodying the region’s commitment to industrial transformation. Active since 2021, Productive Machines have based themselves at AMP Technology Centre since February 2023. Launching their office with eight staff members, they’ve since grown to 18.
