EVENT INFORMATION
The local authorities across the Sheffield City Region have agreed a devolution deal to bring major decision-making to the region with much greater accountability to those who live and work here. A consultation will begin on 1 July to ask residents and businesses to have their say about how transport, infrastructure and skills are managed as part of the £1.3bn budget.
Much has to be achieved before the a mayor is appointed. The fundamental responsibility of the mayor will be to drive economic development; they will become the figurehead for growth and business support; understanding local priorities and becoming a point-man for central government.
They will be tasked with attracting investment, driving transport and infrastructure developments and making region-wide decisions which stimulate and develop the diverse and growing £25bn economy.
At this breakfast, Insider will bring together the architects of the devolution deal as the official consultation on devolution begins; business leaders from across the region are being invited to have their say on how the £1.3bn deal should be developed.
The decision will affect the areas of Barnsley, Bassetlaw, Bolsover, Chesterfield, Derbyshire Dales, Doncaster, North East Derbyshire, Rotherham and Sheffield – which are home to more than 1.8m people with 55,000 business employing some 700,000 people.
