Sheffield’s ITM Power Partner with Deutsche Bahn

As an early adopter of the ITM Power green tech, AMP Technology Centre watched with interest the announcement of their new European partnership with German rail operator Deutsche Bahn.

In 2015, ITM Power launched its first public access hydrogen refuelling station at the Advanced Manufacturing Park and later, in 2022, ITM Power spin-out Motive Fuels, joined AMP Technology Centre’s innovation community, taking office space and using the on-site wind turbine to showcase the power generation and hydrogen conversion process to customers and investors first hand.

On announcing the partnership with Deutsche Bahn, energy storage and clean fuel company, ITM Power, cited the German firm’s commitment to being climate-neutral by 2040, as a major driver to the collaboration.

Sheffield-based ITM Power was founded in 2000, attracting investment, research partnerships, job opportunities and infrastructure projects to the region. With a solid reputation as market leaders in the design and manufacture of electrolysers producing green hydrogen using renewable technology and tap water,  ITM Power plays an important role in South Yorkshire’s wider advanced manufacturing, green energy, and innovation offer.

Through the partnership Deutsche Bahn and ITM Power will power up their decarbonisation journey by converting fleets of trains, buses, and trucks into low and zero-emission vehicles, whilst investing in a network of green fuel infrastructure.

Of the announcement, AMP Technology Centre’s management company, Creative Space Management, Director Paul Taylor, said: “It’s great to see neighbouring businesses successfully partnering on decarbonisation projects of this scale. AMP Technology Centre is home to an impressive community specialising in advanced manufacturing, green energy and translational research and so these global partnerships and the onward opportunities they bring to the supply chain, and to the wider innovation ecosystem, are highly significant.  Well done to all involved!”
