Before the summer holidays we hosted the first AMP Future Leaders Networking event here at AMP Technology Centre. The network was born from a desire to grow and strengthen our regional innovation community. A platform for people in the early stages of their advanced manufacturing and engineering careers to build social capital, support their peers, and plug into the wider conversations about the future of our industry.
The first meet-up was well attended with businesses based across the AMP Technology Centre’s three buildings encouraging their apprentices, graduates and early-stage-career-employees to attend. The agenda focused on building connections and co-designing the remit, ambitions and communication style of the Network.
We welcomed future leaders from Iceotope, MetLase , HBK – Hottinger Brüel & Kjær, Eadon Consulting Ltd, Productive Machines and Taconova Group AG. Thanks to support from the Institution of Engineering and Technology’s local Young Professional Chair; Matt Smith, the network was also attended by University of Sheffield Engineering students; ambitious about their careers and keen to connect with future colleagues.
One early outcome has been the set-up and sharing of a private LinkedIn Group, designed to keep members connected in-between meetups. It is specifically for apprentices, graduates and people in the early stages of careers in advanced manufacturing and engineering. The online group is a place to:
– Support each other, nurturing future leaders within our innovation community.
– Share knowledge.
– Raise an individual’s profile and the profile of their business/employer.
Set up by AMP Technology Centre in response to requests from the newly formed network, it is a professional, safe space to listen to and learn from each other’s experiences. People who are interested in joining can request to via this link: https://www.linkedin.com/groups/13076038/
The next AMP Future Leaders Network meet-up will be held on 10 September at AMP Technology Centre’s The Brearley. We’ll be hosting the session over lunchtime so that businesses can support their employees to attend, and we’ll provide the food and the space for people to connect. September’s focused conversation will be a round-table discussion about the biggest challenges and greatest opportunities facing young people in advanced manufacturing and engineering today. Following the meet-up, we aim to circulate learning and ideas, adding the voices of AMP Future Leaders to the regional discussion.
