Connecting the Sheffield City Region
Infrastructure is a priority investment strand in the bid to build the Northern Powerhouse.
By changing the regional infrastructure through improved transport, housing and communications provision business will become better connected with markets, supply chains and labour force while the population will gain better access to jobs, training and leisure opportunities.
Physical connectivity is as critical as digital connectivity.
The Sheffield City Region LEP, along with local authorities and local businesses, have recently developed the Integrated Infrastructure Plan (SCR IIP) – a £28bn proposal aimed at supporting the plan to increase economic output by £3.1bn, create 70,000 additional jobs, 6,000 new businesses and at least 70,000 new homes by 2025.
Priorities include supporting the growth of the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District, the better integration of Doncaster Sheffield Airport, improving regional connectivity and maximising access to the HS2 station.
Already, proposals for a tram train service between Sheffield and Rotherham are taking shape, but what needs to come next?
These proposals are contained in a 100 page document which details the strategies for driving growth, stimulating thriving markets and leveraging already-attractive investment propositions.
At this breakfast, Insider will bring together the region’s foremost authorities on infrastructure, as well as the LEP executives who are responsible for creating and delivering the plan:
- What is the Integrated Infrastructure Plan?
- Who will be affected by the proposals?
- How can business help set priorities?
