BCH specialises in valuing properties of every type and shape for insurance purposes and works with major Insurers such as Aviva to help pass on information about the problems and common pitfalls encountered with this. It is never easy to convince a stubbornly cynical client that it is a waste of money spent on insurance only to store up problems that are too late to deal with when a major claim occurs. Martyn, a Chartered Loss Adjustor & Chartered Surveyor, will give you, the broker, indicators to help deal with this – and of course also the skills needed by Insurers, Claims Handlers and Loss Adjusters to recognise obvious problems.
Why you should attend the event:
Learn enough to be confident about how to spot and tackle underinsurance problems whether you are looking to advise a client or trying to work out how to deal with a claim in a way that is fair to all the parties involved. This will include learning about ‘average’ and how this may have to be applied when underinsurance exists at the time of a claim. You will learn how to deal with this a professional way and have the added benefit of knowing that if problems do occur, the customer cannot take issue with you – or your PI Insurers!
Who should attend:
This will be of interest to CII Members whether they are Insurers, Claims Handlers, Brokers or Loss Adjusters. It will be of particular interest to those involved in advising clients how they should set sums insured to avoid both over-insurance and the impact of underinsurance should a claim occur, as well as anyone who has responsibility for ensuring Insureds are aware of what is likely to happen in the event of a claim.
Learning Outcomes :
At the end of the session you will have a much greater understanding of how to recognise the signs of underinsurance and the ability to help customers arrange cover properly or, in the claims scenario deal with the implications in a fair and consistent manner.
